This project has the function of braking and neutralizing the deuterons in the form of residual energy coming from the IFMIF LIPAc accelerator. This braking is done by receiving the impact of deuterons on the inner copper cone and transforming all this energy into heat. The outer cone is used to create a chamber with the inner cone. This chamber receives water and performs a cooling circuit that dissipates the heat from the inner cone.
The mentioned residual energy is radioactive, therefore the function of the beam dump is to create a containment system through different layers of different materials (copper, aluminum, polyethylene and carbon steel) surrounding the cones.
