Post-welding strain

There are different effects on the material during the welding process: There is a generation of residual stresses that can produce fragility, hydrogen absorption in welding, or modification of the metal structure increasing the hardness of the area affected by heat, leading to fragility.

In order to mitigate the influence of these unwanted effects on the welded joints, the welded materials are treated using 2 techniques:

  • Thermal distension: controlled application of heat over time (operation subcontracted by CADINOX)
  • Vibration distension: application of vibrations at different frequencies controlling harmonic peaks.
